Dungeon Master's Guide Chapter 3
Alright, this is a lengthy chapter that discusses how to run the game smoothly to give the players the best experience possible while still enjoying the game yourself. Even for experienced DMs, I have no doubt there will be a lot of useful information here, especially since everyone is still getting used to the new rules. We begin with a discussion on Encounter Distance and how to measure it. It's a lot more mechanical than it used to be, involving Spot checks, creatures sizes, vision conditions and terrain. All of these are quantified in the game rules now, so there's a lot less adjudication and more calculation involved. Circumstantial adjustments to the checks are the only real subjective part of this process, and even then most of them have standard modifiers.
