Map-a-Week: School of Sorcery


We'll get back to the monsters soon enough. For now, here's our weekly map, following in the vein of wizard's towers. This is the School of Sorcery. It doesn't look all that much like Hogwart's, does it? And this one has most of the rooms already labeled.

From the description: What magical map collection would be complete without an arcane academy? The uninitiated cannot even fathom the mysterious activities and articles behind this structure's elaborate facade.

Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, Chapters 1-3

Okay, so now we're going to dive into the expanded Greyhawk Gazetteer designed for the Living Greyhawk campaign. There are quite a few similarities with the earlier Gazetteer  product that I reviewed back in September. However, this is greatly expanded from that product. Unfortunately, I don't have the map that came with it, just like I didn't have the map that came with the earlier product. I'm going to have to print off my own copy, I suppose. Pain in the butt, but it is what it is. So, since this product is a chunky 192 pages, I'm going to take a few days to go over the whole thing. The first three chapters are quite short, so I'll cover them in this post. We begin with the first chapter, entitled Greyhawk's World. Player's Handbook, Chapter Three

Today, we will talk about character classes. There are a few things to note right off the bat: First, there are no 'subclasses' anymore; barbarians are not connected with fighters, and druids are a separate beast from clerics. So, all classes are just that: Classes. No subclasses. It's not a big deal, just something I noticed real quick. The second thing I noticed is that standardization is the core of this game. They are standardizing a LOT of stuff here. The most noticeable one thus far is that all eleven classes use the exact same experience point table. It doesn't matter if you're a wizard, a fighter, a monk or a rogue, you're using the same XP requirements for every class. And every class gets a feat every 3rd level. And an ability score increase every 4th level. I'm not sure I like this very much. The Vessel of Stars

Alright, I'm eager to get to the published, hardcopy stuff for November, but before I get into that I just want to do a quick review of the online adventure that was posted for November:  The Vessel of Stars .  This is easily the longest of these adventures so far, clocking in at a whopping 23 pages. Here's the brief intro paragraph: The Vessel of Stars is a DUNGEON & DRAGON® adventure suitable for four 4th-level player characters. Player characters find themselves escorting a child monarch to a mysterious location in an area stalked by extraplanar horrors, alien assassins, and secret forces. Two unallied groups seek the queen.
